This marks 48 hours in Denmark. So far so good!
My host family is so welcoming, and touring a little around the cobblestoned streets of Copenhagen today was exciting. How lucky am I to say I will be attending school in the heart of Copenhagen?? Tomorrow is the first day of orientation where I will meet all the other students and I can't wait to meet those who I'll be spending my time abroad with. But if I'm being totally honest, I'm starting to understand what previous DIS students were talking about when they said study abroad is hard. I remember getting ready for my freshman year of college, constantly hearing others saying, "college is the best years of your life," "freshman year is the best," "you're never going to want to come home." I can say that freshman year was absolutely one of the hardest years of my life, and I begged to go home often. Just like freshman year, the majority of what I heard before jumping on the plane was it's going to be the time of your life. Given it's been 48 hours since I have arrived in Denmark, settling in with a new family and adjusting to the culture shock has been extremely tough - I'm already dealing with a little bit of homesickness, and letting some emotions get the best of me. Just like freshman year was hard, so is study abroad so far. BUT, just like freshman year turned out to be a year of growth and becoming confident in who I am, I am certain that this semester in Denmark will turn out the same. I have an open mind and am ready to conquer this semester in the best way I can!
