I should be more precise - the past week and the future week. The PastFull of friend dates, movie nights, good food, and multiple cups of coffee - the last week of September has been sweet. The weather has been incredible - around 60 degrees and sunny skies. Apparently that isn't a normality for Copenhagen falls. Good weather sparks the curiosity in me, so in the past two weekends I have...
On an academic note, I went on a field study tour to the UN on Wednesday with my Development of Economics class. Members of the World Food Program and the United National Program gave my class a presentation on the most recent data and happenings within the selected departments. These field studies are part of the reason why I love DIS. We are currently reading about the UN in the textbook, and the opportunity we have applying the classroom to real life are the things that differentiate DIS from other programs. Later that night was International Career Night. This is an event where four young professionals talk about their experiences adjusting to the work world of Copenhagen, and moving to Europe in general. This didn't necessarily apply to me because moving across the world isn't in my current future plans, but it arose many possible opportunities for other students that Copenhagen has for an American young professional looking to start a career in Europe. FutureSo much to look forward too... wow.
Besides a typical week of classes and homework, I'm going to Berlin and Prague! My first real European trip! My core class has our long study travel week starting Sunday that will go until Friday. We'll spend three days in Berlin, and then the remaining three days in Prague visiting companies and different industries learning about European Business Strategies. As excited as I am for the academic purpose of this tour, I can't help but be just as excited for the adventure aspect. I don't yet know the itinerary for the week, but all I know is that it's gonna be sweet!

Core Course Week. The week where class becomes less awkward, where friend groups are made, and of course - where we get an in-depth dive into our core course.
International Business has already had so much to offer in this short study tour week. I saw a side of Danish corporate business's that are currently thriving in National markets - LEGO, ECCO, Maersk, Fuglsang Brewery, Danfoss, and Carlsberg - all which are headquartered in Denmark. We were able to hear from Vice Presidents, Senior Marketing Managers, Brewery Owners, Senior Strategy Advisors, and International Business A's very own Professor - Neils Hald, CEO of the Danish Brewer's Association. Getting plugged into these well-known brands for the day broadened my knowledge base of all these different industries and allowed me to hear and actually see how these companies were run. Absolutely one of the best core courses to take... so far. But I'm anticipating it only going up from here! This week wasn't all work. We lived up to the motto - work hard, play hard.
This week has made me SO excited for the long study tour coming up in a few weeks to Berlin and Prague! What a weekend. DIS offers weekend and week-long trips throughout the semester to a number of European countries. I signed up to go on the Sweden Hiking and Canoe trip, which was this past weekend. Our itinerary consisted of canoeing, hiking, orienteering, and repelling - including meals and a housing to fill and fit around 30 students. New faces and new scenic views. Canoeing was first on the list, and we ended up canoeing for almost three hours... a little long but I felt like I was in the Notebook, so it was okay. Hiking was incredible. I think I love preparing and getting dressed for the hike as much as the actual hiking part. My hair in french braids, bean boots, a vest, and my backpack - a good visual for you is Meredith from The Parent Trap. We hiked to Kullaberg - Nimis. The only way down to the rocky beach was through a cave made of nailed together wooden sticks and planks - super safe and super beautiful. The last stop Sunday was a place called Kullaberg. We flip flopped between repelling off the mountainside and orienteering. Because we all burned thousands of calories, it was okay that we stopped by 'Flickorna Pa Skaret,' a well-known Swedish coffee and cake cafè with yummy Swedish baked goods. I will forever remember this trip and the people I met on it - it was the perfect way to spend my second weekend here in Europe.
